Software Engineer, Developer Experience (AI)

About the role

Clay is building the next generation of software engineering infrastructure that lets AI coding agents operate with deep awareness of the codebase and development lifecycle. As a Software Engineer focused on Developer Experience, you will help create the tools and environments that make both engineers and AI agents more effective.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement monorepo organization, orchestration, and tooling to improve codebase navigation.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, including automated evaluation and validation of agent‑generated changes.
• Explore and prototype cloud‑based development environments that support parallel agent execution.
• Expose rich codebase context to coding agents, enabling automated refactors, migrations, and bug fixing.
• Set up metrics, dashboards and forums to monitor engineering productivity and surface friction points.

Required profile

• Experience building developer tooling, infrastructure, or internal platforms.
• Passion for improving developer experience and engineering productivity.
• Enjoy designing systems that automate complex workflows.
• Excitement about AI’s impact on the software development lifecycle.
• Ability to write clean, maintainable code and own systems end‑to‑end.
