Software Engineer – Bioinformatics Pipelines

About the role

OnTrac Solutions is looking for a highly skilled Software Engineer specialized in bioinformatics pipelines to join a contractor program supporting a healthcare customer’s genomics unit. The engagement is temporary (12‑18 months) and driven by a surge in workload from a laboratory information system transition.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and improve software quality of genomics pipelines running on the customer’s on‑premise HPC environment.
• Tune pipeline performance and automate recurring engineering tasks.
• Provide operational support, troubleshoot failures, and resolve data movement issues.
• Implement and maintain integrations with laboratory systems and sequencing instruments (Illumina, Oxford Nanopore, PacBio).
• Support technical infrastructure for movement, analysis, and delivery of genomic data.
• Assist with additional pipeline workload arising from the LIS transition to Epic Beaker.
• Participate as a full member of an agile pipeline team throughout the engagement.

Required profile

• Professional software engineering experience with a demonstrated background in bioinformatics pipeline engineering.
• Hands‑on production experience with Python, Bash, and Nextflow.
• Experience developing, tuning, and operating pipelines in an on‑premise high‑performance computing (HPC) environment.
• Experience integrating software with laboratory systems and sequencing instruments.
• Experience working as a member of an agile team.
• Ability to integrate quickly into an established team with limited ramp‑up.
