Software Engineer – Backend & Compiler Infrastructure

About the role

Q-CTRL is looking for a Software Engineer to join its Boulder Opal team. You will design and build the backend infrastructure that powers our quantum software platform, working closely with compiler engineers and researchers. This position offers the chance to deepen expertise in systems programming and compiler technologies within a fast‑growing quantum computing company.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Python and modern C++.
• Create and evolve APIs (REST, gRPC, GraphQL) that support the compiler and quantum runtime.
• Build reliable distributed, cloud‑native services and improve their performance, reliability, and observability.
• Collaborate with compiler engineers to integrate new compiler capabilities into production.
• Partner with researchers and product teams to deliver new platform features.
• Continuously learn and contribute to compiler infrastructure as your expertise grows.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Strong programming experience in Python and modern C++.
• Proven experience building backend systems or distributed services.
• Experience designing APIs using REST, gRPC or GraphQL.

• Targeted base salary range $130,000 – $170,000 per year.
