Software Developer

About the role

The Montana Department of Transportation is seeking a Software Developer to support day‑to‑day operations through systems analysis, design, and programming. You will work on defining requirements, translating them into code, testing solutions, and training users while contributing to a career‑ladder environment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct systems analysis and business process analysis to capture requirements.
• Design and develop software solutions using approved methodologies.
• Write, test, and debug code to meet documented specifications.
• Provide user training and assess satisfaction with delivered projects.
• Collaborate with the Software Developer Section Supervisor and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Design & Development, or a related field (or 4 years related experience in lieu of a degree).
• 2–4 years of experience with SQL, Oracle forms/databases, Java.NET, JavaScript, HTML, or XML.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a public‑service environment.
