Social Worker II – Senior Services

About the role

The City of Marquette is seeking a Social Worker II to manage a caseload of senior citizens with complex needs. This full‑time position supports the Senior Services Center by delivering social, emotional, financial, and physical assistance while connecting clients to community resources.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to inquiries about program services and eligibility, providing literature, applications, and follow‑up.
• Facilitate support groups and coordinate meetings with community agencies as needed.
• Provide staff support for Senior Services Center operations.
• Assess clients’ ADLs/IADLs and emotional wellbeing, maintaining cultural sensitivity.
• Deliver Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program services and obtain certification.
• Advocate on behalf of clients with external agencies and institutions.
• Maintain accurate case records, progress notes, and monthly programmatic reports.
• Review cases periodically with the Senior Services Manager and Social Work Coordinator.
• Assist in training Social Worker I staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a current State of Michigan LBSW license.
• Comprehensive knowledge of public and private community agencies, programs, and services.
• Willingness to become a certified Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program Counselor.
• Ability to manage high caseloads with multidisciplinary needs.
• Understanding of social work principles for the aging population.
• Professional presentation and strong verbal and written communication skills.
