SOC Technician – Entry Level Cybersecurity Role

About the role

The Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) is seeking an entry‑level Security Operations Center (SOC) Technician to join its Office of Information Security. You will support the monitoring and protection of enterprise information systems while gaining foundational cybersecurity experience in a fast‑paced, government environment.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor security dashboards and security monitoring tools for potential alerts.
• Review, document, and follow established procedures for security events.
• Escalate suspicious activity to SOC Analysts for deeper investigation.
• Maintain incident documentation and case records in ServiceNow or other incident‑management systems.
• Follow SOC standard operating procedures, playbooks, and daily briefings.
• Participate in cybersecurity training, tabletop exercises, and skill‑development activities.
• Assist with other duties as assigned by senior SOC personnel.

Required profile

• Ability to follow documented procedures accurately.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for cross‑team collaboration.
• Capability to evaluate security alerts, recognize unusual activity, and escalate threats.
• Comfort working in a fast‑paced operational environment.
• Willingness to learn and develop cybersecurity competencies.

Required skills

• Experience with ServiceNow or similar incident‑management platforms.
• Familiarity with security dashboards and monitoring tools.
• Basic understanding of security event documentation.
