Skilled Laborer – Heavy Civil Construction

About the role

Granite Construction is seeking a skilled laborer to support heavy civil construction projects such as waterworks, locks, dams, and road grading. The role involves hands‑on work on site, collaborating with equipment operators and crew members to meet precise grade and finish specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Measure and stake out distances from grade stakes, drive stakes, and stretch tight lines.
• Install and align bolts, nails, and blocks under forms.
• Signal construction equipment operators to ensure proper alignment and movement.
• Level earth to fine‑grade specifications using hand tools.
• Mix and place concrete with a portable mixer, then smooth and finish using floats, trowels, or screeds.
• Erect scaffolding, shoring, and braces as required.
• Perform a variety of hand‑tool tasks such as sawing lumber, dismantling forms, and removing projects from concrete.

Required profile

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Ability to follow specific directions and repeat short‑duration tasks.
• Physical capability to stand, walk, climb ladders or scaffolds, and lift 50‑100 lb loads.
• Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Required skills

• Concrete mixing using portable equipment.
• Scaffolding erection and shoring installation.
• Earth grading with hand tools (pick, shovel).
• Formwork installation and alignment.
• Staking, layout, and distance measurement.
• Signaling and coordination with construction equipment operators.
