Shipping and Receiving Assistant I

About the role

The Shipping and Receiving Assistant I supports the efficient flow of materials, equipment and supplies across campus. Working under general supervision, the role focuses on high‑volume inventory management, accurate documentation and excellent customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, inspect, store and issue a wide range of items, ensuring accuracy against purchase orders.
• Maintain inventory records, conduct regular counts and generate simple reports.
• Operate powered and non‑powered material‑handling equipment, including delivery trucks.
• Prepare and file forms related to receipt, purchasing and delivery of goods.
• Apply safe handling practices and perform manual labor as needed.
• Provide courteous service to internal customers and resolve issues promptly.

Required profile

• At least two years of experience in a storeroom, warehouse or similar environment.
• Working knowledge of receiving, storing, packing and shipping methods and equipment.
• Ability to review information quickly for accuracy and completeness.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented setting.
• Basic reading, writing and arithmetic proficiency.

Required skills

• Operation of powered materials handling equipment.
• Use of computer systems for inventory tracking and transaction processing.
