SEVIS Coordinator / International Student Advisor

About the role

The International Student Advisor supports LSU’s international student community by providing expert immigration guidance and ensuring compliance with federal regulations. Working under the Director of International Student Services, the role blends data management, student counseling, and coordination with campus partners.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Reporting Officer (ARO) for DHS and the Department of State.
• Manage and verify data for international students and dependents, ensuring accurate flow between SEVIS and internal systems.
• Track, report, and maintain SEVIS compliance, including regular updates in Sunapsis.
• Collaborate with admissions, IT, and other administrative offices to uphold data integrity.
• Stay current on immigration laws and advise on policy adjustments.
• Train students, faculty, and staff on Sunapsis usage.
• Counsel students, scholars, and university staff on immigration, academic, and cultural matters.
• Assist in workshops, presentations, and programming related to international student services.
• Share document processing workload with the advising team, including SEVIS check‑ins.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of U.S. immigration regulations affecting international students.
• Ability to interpret university policies in the context of federal requirements.
• Excellent communication skills for advising and training diverse audiences.
• Detail‑oriented approach to data accuracy and compliance reporting.
