Service Writer - Vehicle Maintenance Facility

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Service Writer for a vehicle maintenance facility. The role initiates equipment services and repairs by diagnosing performance problems, writing repair orders and keeping customer records, while coordinating with the Shop Foreman and Supervisor on job priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical problems through customer descriptions, inspections, test drives and vehicle history checks
• Answer calls, assist walk-in customers and monitor Maximo and Outlook for repair requests
• Create Maximo work orders, attach job plans, assign labour and prepare work orders with symptoms, causes and required repairs
• Act as point of contact between the facility and other departments, and report work order progress and deferred maintenance to the Supervisor
• Maintain equipment records and Maximo asset status, and help the Shop Foreman with Maximo data and material control
• Manage shop administration such as tasking, lockers, uniforms and office supplies, and enter training records
• Keep a safe workplace and follow quality and procedure compliance requirements

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; minimum four years' experience in a vehicle maintenance shop
• Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods, with medical, dental, drug screening, background check and US citizenship requirements
• Ability to lift and move equipment and work outdoors in extreme cold
• Valid US driver's license; facility credentials require US citizenship

Required skills

• Computer experience, preferably Windows 10 and Microsoft Office suite, with proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Experience with an asset management and electronic corrective maintenance program (Maximo preferred)
• Strong written and verbal communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and frequent interruptions
