Service Worker

About the role

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is seeking a Service Worker to support daily operations across campus facilities. Working under direct supervision, you will perform a variety of manual tasks that keep the campus clean, safe, and functional.

Key responsibilities

• Clean assigned interior spaces, including furnishings, tiles, fixtures, windows, blinds, and floors.
• Collect and remove refuse, leaves, and other waste.
• Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, parking lots, and entrances, applying salt, sand, or deicers as needed.
• Mow lawns, trim hedges, cultivate, weed, and prune plants, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
• Assist with sorting, stocking, and delivering mail, packages, and supplies.
• Move office furniture and equipment to designated locations.
• Launder, sort, and inspect linens and clothing.
• Clean, lubricate, and adjust equipment according to established procedures.
• Operate a variety of hand and power tools and equipment to complete assigned work.

Required profile

• Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations.
• Capability to follow oral and written instructions accurately.
• Physical stamina for bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, and frequent heavy lifting.
• Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions and wear personal protective equipment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand tools.
• Proficiency with power tools.
• Equipment operation and basic maintenance.
