Senior Tax Specialist

About the role

Tire Rack is looking for an experienced Senior Tax Specialist to lead and support indirect tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions. The role involves preparing, reconciling, and filing a variety of tax returns while ensuring adherence to evolving regulations and internal licensing requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead preparation, reconciliation, and timely filing of sales and use tax returns for numerous states.
• Oversee environmental tire fee returns and identify process improvements.
• Prepare and file monthly gross receipts tax returns with strict data integrity.
• Coordinate annual property tax filings and manage related invoice payments.
• Provide senior‑level support for annual 1099 preparation and issuance.
• Conduct advanced indirect tax research to resolve complex issues.
• Maintain expert knowledge of state tax legislation and exemption certificate requirements.
• Support Vertex tax software configuration, implementation, and testing.
• Mentor and train Tax Specialists, offering technical guidance and professional development.
• Collaborate with Finance, Customer Service, IT, and other departments to ensure tax compliance.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of corporate tax experience, preferably in a multi‑state retail environment.
• In‑depth knowledge of state tax laws and exemption certificate requirements.
• Strong analytical abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet recurring deadlines.
