Senior Structural Engineer – Concrete & Precast Design

About the role

Radiant, an El Segundo‑based startup developing portable nuclear microreactors, is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to design and develop concrete and precast structural systems for its manufacturing and deployment sites. The role involves creating efficient, reliable structures that can withstand extreme thermal and seismic conditions while meeting program constraints.

Key responsibilities

• Own design of critical concrete structures such as spent‑fuel dry cask storage, foundations, and precast elements supporting manufacturing and site operations.
• Conduct trade studies and develop designs for static, thermal, and seismic loading conditions.
• Perform detailed structural analysis, including reinforced and precast concrete design, static strength, durability, and dynamic seismic qualification using hand calculations and finite‑element tools.
• Develop and execute construction, fabrication, and test plans for precast and cast‑in‑place concrete components.
• Create and manage Bill‑of‑Materials, identify suppliers and fabricators, and oversee sub‑assembly design, fabrication, and testing schedules.
• Conduct risk analysis (FMEA) for concrete structural subsystems and provide technical feedback to cross‑functional engineers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 5+ years of experience designing concrete or reinforced concrete structures.
• 4+ years of experience performing structural analysis using hand calculations and finite‑element software.
