Senior Specialist Engineering – Onsite

The Small Scale Organics (SSO) Pilot Plant is a GMP‑compliant facility within Merck's Process Research & Development organization. The Senior Specialist Engineering role supports daily production activities, ensuring safety, GMP, and environmental compliance while overseeing equipment readiness, batch execution, housekeeping, and inventory. Responsibilities include executing batch processes, supervising shop‑floor personnel, writing and reviewing GMP documentation, driving corrective and preventive actions, and leading continuous‑improvement projects. The incumbent will collaborate with cross‑functional partners, provide coaching and training to operations staff, investigate safety observations, and manage shift rotations between first and second shifts. The position requires a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience) and at least five years of relevant experience in a process development lab or pilot plant. Mechanical aptitude, familiarity with chemical process equipment, cGMP, GDP, safety & environmental regulations, and experience with pilot‑scale equipment are essential. Preferred qualifications include Lean Six Sigma certification and experience with small‑molecule drug substance or biologics process development. The role is onsite five days a week with occasional overtime and offers a salary range of $117,000–$184,200 plus bonus and benefits.
