Senior Software Engineer

About the role

Shiftsmart is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join its New York headquarters. The role involves leading complex technical projects, designing and building high‑performance features, and mentoring junior engineers in a fast‑growing labor‑platform startup.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end technical initiatives, from ideation through production, such as improving dispatch algorithms and onboarding flows.
• Design, architect, and implement scalable services using Node.js, React/React Native, MongoDB, Python, and GCP.
• Drive technical vision, influence product strategy, and conduct regular code reviews.
• Monitor platform performance in a high‑volume two‑sided marketplace and resolve issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team scaling.

Required profile

• 4+ years of software engineering experience with strong competence in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, and React Native.
• Proven ability to work cross‑functionally with product, design, and leadership in a fast‑paced startup environment.
• Outcome‑oriented mindset, comfortable with ambiguity, and eager to own results.
• Passion for building products that impact hourly workers and enterprises.
