Senior Software Engineer – Backend/Platform Agentic AI

About the role

Mastercard is building a first‑party AI platform for its Portfolio Intelligence products. As a Senior Software Engineer you will own the end‑to‑end delivery of agentic AI services that power natural‑language analytics, automated report summaries, and personalized dashboards for thousands of customers worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and production deployment of agentic AI systems, including orchestration, tool calling, context engineering, retrieval, and streaming responses.
• Define the technical direction for AI capabilities on the PI platform, shaping architecture, design patterns, and integration strategies.
• Build and operate scalable, reliable, multi‑tenant AI‑enabled services in Java and Python with strict data isolation.
• Implement production‑grade AI infrastructure such as prompt management, evaluation frameworks, guardrails, observability, and cost/token telemetry.
• Collaborate closely with product owners, shared AI infrastructure teams, and external vendors to move solutions from prototype to enterprise‑scale production.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering production AI systems at scale.
• Strong technical ownership and ability to make key implementation decisions.
• Excellent collaboration skills with cross‑functional product and engineering teams.
• Ability to design robust, secure, and cost‑effective AI services for a multi‑tenant environment.
