Senior Site Reliability Engineer, Robotics & Cloud Infrastructure

About the role

Bedrock Ocean Exploration is seeking a senior Site Reliability Engineer who can bridge the gap between autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) robotics and cloud‑based data platforms. The role focuses on building self‑healing, automated infrastructure that enables continuous AUV operations while minimizing manual intervention.

Key responsibilities

• Own reliability across the full path from vehicle to customer: AUV onboard compute (Jetson‑class modules, ROS 2), topside/operator systems, cloud data pipelines and the platform that delivers data products.
• Design, build and maintain automation for provisioning, configuration management, deployment and self‑recovery to minimise manual steps during field operations.
• Develop and improve observability – metrics, logging, tracing and alerting – to give robotics and data teams early, actionable signals.
• Participate in a shared on‑call rotation, providing 12‑hour coverage for European and East‑Coast operations.
• Mentor team members and set reliability standards across the organization.
• Travel to field deployments and the Richmond headquarters (5‑15% of time).

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in site reliability engineering or comparable infrastructure roles.
• Comfort working with both embedded robotics systems and large‑scale cloud services.
• Willingness to be based on the East Coast (Brooklyn) and support on‑call shifts.
• Ability to work in a fast‑moving, multidisciplinary environment.
