Senior Security Controls Assessor

About the role

Aretum, a federal consulting organization serving defense, civilian and homeland security clients, is seeking a Senior Security Controls Assessor. You will conduct comprehensive security assessments of information systems to ensure compliance with applicable security controls and regulations. The position is remote, with occasional travel expected to be less than 10%. Employees may handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and must follow safeguarding and compliance requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Independently perform all aspects of the security controls assessment in line with NIST 800-53 Revision 5
• Understand and apply ATO documentation requirements
• Coordinate testing with stakeholders and the team lead, and develop the assessment plan with stakeholder input
• Lead assessment interviews and tests, manage evidence and provide recommendations to improve security posture

Required profile

• At least 3 years leading security controls assessments
• Experience performing assessments while supporting the federal government
• Public Trust eligibility required; U.S. work authorization is required because the position supports a federal contract
• Preferred: BA/BS degree and certifications such as CISSP, CISM or CISA

Required skills

• Proficient understanding of NIST RMF
• Expertise in NIST 800-53 Rev 5
• Understanding of the ATO process
• Strong communication and task management skills
