Senior Scientist (Small Molecule, Synthetics)

About the role

Amgen is hiring a Senior Scientist (Small Molecule, Synthetics) to join its Drug Product Team (DPT). The role provides functional area strategies and runs design-of-experiments (DOE) studies during the development of pivotal and commercial-ready programs, using deep expertise in organic chemistry and molecular assemblies within cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Interface with the DPT and other functions such as Drug Substance Technologies, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, Contract Manufacturing, Pharmacokinetics and Drug Metabolism, Clinical Development and Biostatistics.
• Design and execute experiments supporting drug product development objectives.
• Summarize results in technical documents, regulatory filings and presentations.
• Engage with external industry groups such as the IQ Consortium and academic partners.
• Provide technical expertise on the structure, reactivity and physicochemical properties of drug substances and excipients.

Required profile

• Basic qualification: PhD, PharmD or MD (with relevant post-doc); or Master's degree with 3 years of scientific experience; or Bachelor's degree with 5 years of scientific experience.
• Preferred: Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or Pharmaceutical Sciences.
• Preferred: prior pharmaceutical experience with oral solid dosage forms, manufacturing insight into unit operations, and a publication record.

Required skills

• Proficiency with characterization techniques such as XRPD, DSC, TGA and SEM.
• Understanding of the patent application process is advantageous.
• Demonstrated ability to lead independent formulation research and write technical reports.

• Annual salary range of $126,066 to $170,560 in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico).
