Senior Science Officer, Preclinical Development

About the role

The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) seeks a Senior Science Officer to lead its Preclinical Development portfolio. You will guide stem‑cell and gene‑therapy projects from early research through IND‑enabling activities, ensuring alignment with CIRM’s mission and timelines.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of preclinical awards, tracking progress from early development to IND clearance.
• Identify scientific, technical, regulatory and operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.
• Advise grantees on experimental design, CMC development, manufacturability, regulatory strategy and access planning.
• Contribute to the design and continuous improvement of funding programs supporting preclinical development.
• Collaborate with Clinical Development, Discovery, Patient Access and R&D Data teams to ensure seamless transition across the development pipeline.
• Represent CIRM at scientific, industry and regulatory forums and engage external experts to surface emerging opportunities.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in preclinical development of stem‑cell or gene‑therapy products.
• Proven ability to manage complex award portfolios and guide projects through IND‑enabling milestones.
• Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, CMC considerations and translational data standards.
