Senior RF Systems Engineer – Semiconductor Equipment
amat · Santa Clara
Job description
About the role
The Senior RF Systems Engineer will lead the architecture, development, integration, and qualification of RF power‑delivery solutions for next‑generation semiconductor manufacturing equipment. This role translates process and customer requirements into robust RF subsystem designs that deliver industry‑leading plasma performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost competitiveness.
Key responsibilities
- Design, specify, and integrate RF generators, match networks, sensors, transmission lines, and grounding/shielding architectures.
- Define RF subsystem requirements and develop architectures that optimise plasma uniformity, stability and repeatability.
- Partner with plasma and process engineers to improve ignition characteristics, coupling efficiency, harmonic behaviour and defectivity.
- Lead subsystem integration across power delivery, chamber hardware, gas delivery, and control software, and support prototype bring‑up and qualification.
- Utilise circuit analysis, EM modelling, impedance matching and thermal reliability tools to predict system behaviour and correlate with test data.
- Drive reliability, serviceability and cost‑of‑ownership improvements, conduct root‑cause investigations and lead corrective actions.
- Act as RF technology subject‑matter expert, mentor junior engineers and present technical recommendations to leadership and customers.
Required profile
- BS/MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, RF Engineering or related discipline.
- 8+ years experience developing RF systems for semiconductor equipment, plasma processing or related high‑frequency applications.
- Strong foundation in RF circuit design, electromagnetics, impedance matching, transmission‑line theory and high‑frequency power delivery.
- Hands‑on experience with RF generators, matching networks and laboratory characterisation.
- Proven ability to lead complex technical programs and cross‑functional teams.
