Senior Project Engineer – Technical Manager (Utilities)

About the role

WSP is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to lead technical engineering projects for public‑power utilities. The position is based in Lakewood, Colorado, with consideration for other locations, and will support municipal, cooperative, REA and PUD clients.

Key responsibilities

• Manage technical engineering projects covering substation, transmission, generation and utility studies.
• Coordinate with multiple disciplines across several offices to ensure seamless client service.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing technical guidance and QA/QC oversight.
• Review and approve electrical infrastructure design plans for mid‑level and complex projects, ensuring compliance with codes, ordinances and regulations.
• Apply high‑level electrical engineering techniques throughout concept development, design, procurement, construction and operation phases.
• Engage with public and private entities to discuss engineering, construction and operational challenges.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations that communicate findings, recommendations and solutions.
• Develop a client base for high‑level electrical engineering services and identify business‑development opportunities.
• Stay current with the latest electrical engineering practices and collaborate on federally, state and locally funded projects.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required profile

• Significant experience in the public‑power sector, preferably with municipal, cooperative, REA or PUD clients.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate across multiple office locations.
• Demonstrated mentorship experience for junior engineers and designers.
• Strong knowledge of applicable electrical codes, ordinances and regulations.
• Excellent communication skills for client interaction and technical presentations.
