Senior Principal, Data Engineering

About the role

Mastercard Services Technology is looking for a Senior Principal Data Engineer to design, build, and optimize enterprise‑scale data platforms across AWS and Azure. This hands‑on individual contributor role focuses on modern lakehouse architectures, cloud‑native automation, and secure, governed data access.

Key responsibilities

• Design and architect end‑to‑end cloud‑native data platform solutions, including lakehouse architectures using AWS S3, Azure Data Lake, Databricks and related tools.
• Develop DevOps capabilities such as CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure‑as‑Code, and automated environment provisioning across multi‑cloud environments.
• Define and enforce cloud security standards, covering IAM design, encryption, network security, and regulatory compliance (GDPR, HIPAA).
• Establish enterprise‑grade data governance frameworks with cataloging, lineage, classification and access control using AWS Lake Formation and Azure Purview.
• Architect and deliver scalable ETL/ELT pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouse systems to support analytics and reporting.
• Implement and evolve Medallion Lakehouse architectures (Bronze, Silver, Gold) leveraging AWS Glue, Lake Formation and related services.

Required profile

• Extensive experience designing and operating large‑scale data platforms in both AWS and Azure environments.
• Strong hands‑on coding and engineering background with a track record of building production‑grade data solutions.
• Ability to lead technical initiatives, influence cross‑functional teams and champion best practices without direct people‑management responsibilities.
• Deep understanding of cloud security, compliance requirements and data governance principles.
