Senior Perception Software Engineer

About the role

Seasats is looking for a senior engineer to lead the perception stack that turns raw radar, camera and other sensor data into a reliable, real‑time view of the vessel’s environment. You will design, implement and field algorithms that enable autonomous navigation of unmanned surface vehicles in challenging ocean conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement perception algorithms for detection, tracking, avoidance and state estimation.
• Integrate machine‑learning models with classical perception pipelines and decide the best approach for each problem.
• Optimize code for real‑time execution on embedded hardware and evaluate sensor choices.
• Build tests, expand simulation environments and prevent regressions through rigorous validation.
• Collaborate with vehicle software, UI and operations teams to create intuitive operator displays.

Required profile

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 4+ years on perception problems in deployed systems.
• Deep experience processing real‑time sensor data (camera, radar, LiDAR) on compute‑limited platforms.
• Proven ability to architect subsystems, lead technical efforts and mentor engineers.
• Strong technical communication skills and a collaborative, team‑oriented attitude.

Required skills

• Expert‑level Python with NumPy, SciPy and OpenCV.
• Classical perception techniques: clustering, segmentation, filtering, sensor fusion, Kalman and particle filters.
• 3D geometry, coordinate frames, transforms and sensor calibration.
• C++ for performance‑critical components.
• GPU or native acceleration of Python code (CUDA, CuPy, Numba).
• ROS or similar robotics middleware.
