Senior Payroll Tax Analyst

About the role
Our client, a global organization with a complex multi‑jurisdictional payroll environment, is looking for an experienced Senior Payroll Tax Analyst. You will ensure payroll tax compliance across the United States and Canada, support tax‑related processes, and partner with payroll, HRIS, and technology teams to maintain accurate payroll operations.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and Canadian payroll tax regulations.
- Maintain and update payroll tax jurisdictions for accurate withholding, reporting, and remittance.
- Perform payroll tax reconciliations, research variances, and drive issue resolution.
- Support quarterly and annual payroll tax activities, including year‑end reporting and validation of tax documents.
- Assist with payroll tax filings and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Partner with payroll, HRIS, and technology teams to validate tax setup and system configurations.
- Investigate tax‑related issues, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Support responses to payroll tax notices, audits, and agency inquiries.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to maintain payroll tax accuracy and compliance.
- Provide payroll tax expertise and guidance across the organization.
- Contribute to process improvements and operational efficiency initiatives within payroll.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of payroll experience with a strong focus on payroll tax.
- Deep understanding of multi‑state U.S. payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience supporting Canadian payroll tax reporting and compliance.
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax calculations, filings, and reconciliation processes.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Preferred: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation or willingness to obtain certification.
- Preferred: Experience with enterprise payroll platforms such as UKG, SAP, Workday, ADP, or similar systems.
- Preferred: Hands‑on involvement with year‑end payroll processing and tax reporting activities.
Required skills
- Advanced Microsoft Excel for large‑dataset analysis and reconciliation.
- Enterprise payroll platforms (e.g., UKG, SAP, Workday, ADP).
