Senior Optomechanical / Mechatronics Engineer

About the role

Applied Materials is a global leader in materials engineering solutions for semiconductor and display manufacturing. The Senior Optomechanical / Mechatronics Engineer will lead the definition and development of high‑precision mechanical and optomechanical subsystems for advanced 300 mm equipment platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Architect precision subsystems such as motion stages, positioning systems, alignment and metrology interfaces, and optomechanical integration.
• Define system‑level performance metrics including accuracy, repeatability, thermal stability, and vibration.
• Perform trade‑off analysis across performance, cost, and risk.
• Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders on feasibility and specifications.
• Drive early design concepts and support system‑level reviews.
• Oversee manufacturing and installation processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
• Coordinate procurement and assembly of mechanical components and equipment for design projects.

Required profile

• BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in precision engineering or semiconductor equipment.
• Strong background in motion systems, precision stages, and controls integration.
• Experience defining system requirements and architecture.
• Preferred experience with optomechanical system integration and sub‑micron positioning systems.
