Senior Mechanisms Engineer

About the role

Radiant Industries is developing portable nuclear microreactors and seeks a Senior Mechanisms Engineer to lead the design of critical mechanisms for its Kaleidos 1‑MW reactor. The role involves creating reliable actuators and safety‑critical components that will operate for up to five years without refueling.

Key responsibilities

• Own the design and development of mechanisms such as control‑blade actuators and air‑jacket valves.
• Conduct trade studies, material selection, and detailed thermomechanical and kinematic analyses using hand calculations and finite‑element tools.
• Generate manufacturing and assembly instructions, test plans, and manage Bill‑of‑Materials.
• Identify and qualify suppliers, oversee sub‑assembly production schedules, and perform risk analyses (FMEA).
• Collaborate with cross‑functional engineers, providing requirements and feedback throughout the project lifecycle.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering.
• At least 4 years of experience designing mechanisms and performing stress analysis.
• Proven ability to work on multi‑component assemblies and deliver hardware that progresses from prototype to production.

Required skills

• Finite‑element analysis tools: Abaqus, Ansys, FEMAP (or similar).
• CAD software: NX or equivalent.
• Hand‑calculation methods for static strength, durability, and fatigue.
• Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Experience with pneumatic systems and electromechanical integration (motors, encoders).
