Senior Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Applied Materials is a global leader in materials engineering solutions for semiconductor and display manufacturing. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will design, develop and troubleshoot complex mechanical systems and tooling that enable the production of next‑generation chips and advanced displays.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and resolve difficult mechanical problems with limited supervision.
• Develop, design, and modify mechanical layouts, schematics, and drawings for challenging scopes.
• Perform engineering analysis, including FEA structural and thermal simulations, and document test reports.
• Lead or execute projects, define key suppliers, and generate mechanical product specifications.
• Design and implement custom tooling, fixturing, and processes for handling, assembly, and disassembly of components.
• Communicate complex technical information and build consensus across teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 4–7 years of experience with CAD, thermodynamics, sheet‑metal design, GD&T, and design‑for‑excellence principles.
• Proven ability to take designs from concept through prototype, qualification, and production release.
• Experience with mechanical systems that include motors, actuators, bearings, guides, linkages, and motion mechanisms.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for complex mechanical issues.

Required skills

• CAD software (NX, Inventor or comparable).
• Thermodynamics and flow analysis.
• Sheet‑metal design and material selection.
• GD&T and Design for Excellence.
• FEA structural and thermal simulation.
• Experience with servo motors, stepper motors, linear actuators, ball screws, brakes, encoders, and motion‑control hardware.
