Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Test Equipment

About the role

Moog is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of test equipment for its Space & Defense Group. You will create hydraulic, electro‑hydraulic, electro‑mechanical, servo‑mechanism, and electro‑pneumatic components and systems that verify the performance of products used on military, commercial, and space vehicles. The position is onsite in the United States (Buffalo, NY or nearby locations).

Key responsibilities

• Act as a core member of a multidisciplinary team delivering innovative test equipment.
• Consult internal customers to define new test equipment requirements.
• Design hydraulic and pneumatic schematics supporting new test systems.
• Integrate hydraulic components into higher‑level test assemblies.
• Guide Assembly and Test technicians through development activities.
• Prepare work estimates for design and development projects.
• Maintain engineering records and document the impact of design changes.
• Initiate and conduct specialized research to solve technical challenges.
• Develop reliable designs through experimental test programs.
• Produce clear reports documenting designs, analyses, and test results.
• Coordinate and support the assembly of test equipment.
• Mentor junior engineers as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant mechanical design experience.
• Self‑motivated with strong analytical and critical‑thinking abilities.
• Experience with solid modeling and drafting is a plus.
• Familiarity with DOORS software is a plus.
• Background in hydraulic system design preferred.
