Senior Managing Counsel, Regulatory

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a senior legal professional to lead its Global Regulatory team for money‑transfer and payment services. The Senior Managing Counsel, Regulatory will shape the regulatory strategy, engage with regulators worldwide and ensure the company’s compliance framework meets evolving legal requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a global regulatory strategy, including regulator engagement and advocacy.
• Act as the primary liaison between business units and regulators during examinations, meetings and other interactions.
• Manage external counsel, review regulatory advice and support strategic initiatives.
• Provide regulatory guidance on product development and operations, ensuring policies and procedures align with applicable obligations.
• Design and implement compliance management policies and controls for account‑to‑account money‑transfer activities.
• Prepare and deliver periodic reports to senior management on emerging regulatory obligations and the state of the compliance program.
• Coordinate regulatory examinations and manage response plans.
• Monitor regulatory changes, advise product owners and develop creative solutions to meet new requirements.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of industry regulations, trends and their business impact.

Required profile

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Proven experience managing regulatory supervision in cross‑border payments.
• Track record of building and overseeing regulatory compliance programs for large financial institutions.
• Demonstrated leadership of global teams and ability to influence executive stakeholders.
• Experience navigating multinational, multicultural organizations.
• Self‑starter with a proactive, results‑driven approach.
