Senior Landfill Engineer

About the role

The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. (MSG) is a people‑focused, award‑winning, full‑service consulting firm offering civil, geotechnical, environmental, planning, landscape architecture, agriculture, surveying and construction support services. MSG is seeking a Senior Landfill Engineer to join its growing environmental and solid‑waste team, working on a variety of landfill permitting, design, construction and operational support projects for municipal and private‑sector clients across Ohio and surrounding states.

Key responsibilities

• Solid waste landfill design, permitting, and operational support for municipal and private landfill facilities.
• Preparation of landfill permitting documents, construction plans, technical specifications, and certification reports.
• Construction oversight and construction quality assurance (CQA) monitoring for landfill facilities and related infrastructure.
• Support groundwater monitoring, explosive gas monitoring, stormwater management, and erosion control efforts.
• Assist with landfill gas collection and control system design, including blowers, flares, and energy recovery systems.
• Coordinate with junior engineers and field staff on project assignments and construction activities.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams across Ohio offices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
• 5–7+ years of experience in solid waste, landfill engineering, environmental consulting, site civil, or geotechnical engineering.
• Experience with landfill gas management design and permitting.
• Familiarity with groundwater monitoring, explosive gas monitoring, or environmental compliance programs.
• Experience with Ohio EPA solid waste regulations or similar state programs.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer Intern (EI/EIT) certification preferred.
• Strong technical writing and report preparation skills.
