Senior Forward Deployed AI Engineer

About the role

AZX is looking for a senior engineer who will design, build, and deploy AI systems directly inside client environments such as utilities, commercial real‑estate, and logistics firms. You will work with client operators and executives to uncover real problems, craft solutions with their architects, and deliver measurable outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end technical delivery: discovery, design, build, deployment, and hand‑over to client teams.
• Implement trust mechanisms: evaluation harnesses, replay loops, guardrails, cost/latency budgets, monitoring, and fallback paths.
• Extract structured facts from messy documents and create deterministic checks for money‑ or compliance‑sensitive decisions.
• Optimize pipelines for cost and quality, swapping frontier models for fine‑tuned or rule‑based components when appropriate.
• Design high‑stakes systems such as after‑hours voicemail triage with clear autonomy boundaries.
• Define and track KPIs, baselines, and instrumentation with clients before and after deployment.
• Maintain a client‑facing engineering presence through working sessions, demos, POCs, and feedback loops.

Required profile

• 5+ years of full‑stack delivery experience (Python/FastAPI back‑ends, React/TypeScript front‑ends, deployment, monitoring, test coverage).
• Proven track record shipping LLM/agentic systems to production with structured outputs, tool use, retrieval, guardrails, and robust eval loops.
• Experience deploying inside external clouds, identity providers, and compliance regimes.
• Strong stakeholder skills: discovery workshops, executive readouts, and constructive push‑back.
• Comfort operating under ambiguity, delivering working solutions or well‑framed questions on tight deadlines.
