Senior Firmware Engineer

About the role

Sandbar is an interface company in New York City building software, machine‑learning and hardware products for leading tech firms. As a Senior Firmware Engineer you will design, develop, test and ship firmware for embedded systems that power the company’s first product, Stream – a private voice‑ring and conversational interface.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop firmware for embedded platforms.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to define firmware requirements and integrate hardware.
• Perform system integration testing and validate firmware functionality.
• Debug and troubleshoot complex firmware and hardware issues.
• Document firmware design, development processes and support manufacturing partners.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 8+ years of professional firmware development experience.
• Proven ability to work across cross‑functional teams and deliver high‑quality products.

Required skills

• C/C++ programming.
• Python for debugging tools.
• Real‑time operating systems (RTOS).
• Embedded systems and hardware interfacing.
• Debugging tools and techniques.
• Version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Microcontroller development.
• Communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C.
• BLE protocol.
• Experience with capacitive sensors or sensor fusion (a plus).
