Senior Finance and Budget Officer

About the role

The Senior Finance and Budget Officer will work within the Common Administrative Platform at UN Headquarters, supporting the One Executive Office (One EO) in delivering financial and budgetary services to New York‑based client entities. Reporting to the Chief of Unit/Desk, the officer will ensure accurate budget preparation, administration and monitoring for a range of programmes and trust funds.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate the review of budget submissions from client departments, analysing staff and non‑staff cost estimates.
• Prepare, revise and finalise finance and budget documents, incorporating recommendations from intergovernmental bodies.
• Monitor programme budgets, trust‑fund and grant financial implications, and ensure expenditures stay within authorized limits.
• Issue and manage budget allotments, authorise sub‑allotments and redeploy funds as needed.
• Provide substantive guidance to client entities and expert bodies during budget reviews.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in public‑sector budgeting and financial administration.
• Strong analytical abilities and familiarity with UN financial regulations.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with client entities and intergovernmental bodies.
