About the role
Johnson & Johnson RAD is seeking a Senior Engineer to architect, develop and deploy next‑generation automation solutions for surgical robotics manufacturing. The role involves delivering end‑to‑end automation from concept through commissioning, ensuring compliance and seamless integration with enterprise digital platforms.
Key responsibilities
- Own delivery of automation solutions including robotic cells, X‑Y Cartesian systems, EOAT, vision‑guided assembly, smart workstations and autonomous mobile robots.
- Define functional specifications, URS/FRS, test plans, acceptance criteria and commissioning documentation.
- Lead system design reviews, provide technical direction to internal teams and integrators, and ensure modular, scalable designs.
- Specify, integrate and validate hardware and software such as robots, PLCs, HMIs, safety controllers, vision systems, sensors and industrial networks.
- Drive machine safety, risk assessments and maintain EHS compliance documentation.
- Implement OT/IIoT connectivity, edge devices and monitoring, collaborating on dashboards and analytics.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Computer or Manufacturing Engineering.
- 5+ years delivering industrial automation/robotics solutions in manufacturing, preferably regulated industries.
- Hands‑on experience with industrial robots (ABB, KUKA, UR, Mecademic or similar) and PLC/controls (Rockwell/Allen‑Bradley, Beckhoff).
- Strong knowledge of machine safety standards and risk assessment practices.
- Experience with sensors, machine vision integration and digital engineering tools such as simulation, offline programming and digital twins.
