Senior Director, Global Safety & Risk Programs

About the role

Amgen is looking for a Senior Director, Global Safety & Risk Programs, a strategic enterprise leader who defines and executes its global safety and operational risk strategy. Reporting to the Head of Global Environment, Health & Safety (EHS), the role leads the transformation, governance and continuous evolution of enterprise safety programs so they support sustainable growth, operational excellence, innovation and organizational resilience. It partners with Operations, Global Engineering, R&D, Product Stewardship, Corporate Functions, Security and Digital Technology & Innovation to modernize safety management systems, accelerate digital transformation and integrate risk management into business decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the enterprise Safety & Risk strategy, lead the modernization of global safety programs and set a multi-year roadmap for safety capabilities and governance.
• Integrate AI, predictive analytics, automation and digital tools into safety programs, and build dashboards and leading indicators for proactive risk management.
• Provide enterprise leadership and governance for occupational safety, critical risk management, serious injury and fatality prevention, contractor safety, human and organizational performance, control of work, electrical and machine safety, confined space, lockout/tagout, working at heights, ergonomics, powered industrial vehicles and line-of-fire prevention.
• Establish governance for identifying, assessing and mitigating operational risks across the enterprise and integrate risk management into capital projects, engineering design, manufacturing, R&D and business planning.
• Simplify processes, drive integration between safety, engineering, quality and operations, and lead change management to strengthen safety culture and leadership capability.
• Set up governance frameworks, monitor programs through KPIs and dashboards, lead audits and assessments, and build a high-performing global organization with talent development and succession planning.

Required profile

• One of: doctorate and 5 years leading transformation safety and risk, master's and 9 years, or bachelor's and 11 years of leading transformation safety and risk experience.
• At least 5 years of direct people management and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or allocating resources.
• Preferred: experience leading enterprise transformation in biotechnology, pharmaceutical manufacturing, engineering or similar regulated industries, and proven experience driving digital modernization.
