Senior Director and Head of Health

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) seeks a visionary Senior Director and Head of Health to lead its largest health programming portfolio. In this senior leadership position you will shape global health delivery for populations affected by conflict, disaster, and climate crises, ensuring they receive high‑quality, life‑saving services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for a $200 million health portfolio across 35 country offices, covering Primary Health Care, Nutrition, Sexual & Reproductive Health, Environmental & Climate Health, and Immunization.
• Set global standards for technical quality and soundness of health programs and represent IRC in international forums.
• Lead a dispersed team of ~60 technical experts, including Deputy Director and Global Practice Leads for each health sector.
• Partner with senior leaders to prioritize health investment and drive impact at scale.
• Identify, scale, and integrate high‑impact health interventions while ensuring operational excellence.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience managing large‑scale health programs in humanitarian or development settings.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary, geographically dispersed teams.
• Strong strategic thinking, advocacy, and fundraising experience.
• Demonstrated success influencing global health policy and partnerships.
