About the role
National Housing Trust seeks a Senior Development and Property Accountant to oversee accounting for its affordable‑housing portfolio. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, you will ensure accurate monthly reporting, support audits, and collaborate with property managers, lenders, and investors.
Key responsibilities
- Manage full‑cycle real estate and project accounting for a portfolio of operating, pre‑development, and development properties.
- Oversee third‑party property manager accountants, reviewing monthly financials and reconciling issues.
- Track and account for General Partner (GP) and Limited Partner (LP) interests, fees, and fund releases.
- Handle intercompany accounting, loan receivables/payables, and related reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly variance analyses and work closely with asset management.
- Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist with annual audits and coordinate tax processes as needed.
Required profile
- At least 5 years of experience in real estate or development accounting, preferably in affordable‑housing projects.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Ability to communicate effectively with property managers, lenders, investors, and senior leadership.
- Willingness to work additional hours during audit seasons.
