Senior Database Reliability Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Database Reliability Engineer to own the reliability, performance, and scalability of Scribe’s data tier. You will set standards and guardrails for how engineers interact with our databases while ensuring the platform can support rapid growth.

Key responsibilities

• Own reliability across Aurora PostgreSQL, OpenSearch, Redis, and the CDC pipeline, including schema design reviews, migration safety, and incident response.
• Improve Django ORM usage at scale by detecting N+1 patterns, extending QuerySet conventions, and building CI checks and AGENTS.md scaffolding.
• Operate and evolve the CDC pipeline from Aurora through DMS to S3 Parquet to Snowflake, ensuring replication slot hygiene and safe schema evolution.
• Build observability with pganalyze, CloudWatch, and Honeycomb, tying slow ORM queries to users, flags, and deployments.
• Drive multi‑AZ resilience, manage failover behavior, and design self‑service tooling for product teams to monitor query footprints.

Required profile

• Deep expertise with PostgreSQL (EXPLAIN ANALYZE, MVCC, vacuum, lock contention) and experience tuning Aurora Serverless V2.
• Hands‑on experience with ORMs (Django) at production scale, able to predict generated SQL and spot N+1 issues.
• Experience running CDC pipelines in AWS using DMS, logical replication, and Parquet‑based data lakes feeding Snowflake.
• Familiarity with observability tools such as pganalyze, CloudWatch, Honeycomb, and OpenTelemetry.
