Senior Data Scientist II – AI & Legal Tech

About the role

Join LexisNexis Legal & Professional, part of RELX, to lead the design and validation of AI‑driven product capabilities for the legal market. You will work on a global AI platform team that builds and ships cutting‑edge AI features, leveraging the latest generative AI tools to solve complex legal use cases.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement NLP, LLM, and generative AI approaches such as Retrieval‑Augmented Generation and prompt engineering.
• Design agentic workflows and multi‑step reasoning strategies for legal tasks.
• Create hybrid search solutions (semantic + lexical) and define evaluation metrics for relevance and ranking quality.
• Analyze large‑scale legal datasets to extract insights and improve model performance.
• Establish best practices for model evaluation, validation, and benchmarking.
• Translate experimental results into clear product recommendations and measurable business impact.
• Collaborate with product managers, legal experts, and engineers to align solutions with user needs.
• Mentor junior team members and provide technical leadership in data science and AI.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or higher in a quantitative or technical field (e.g., Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science).
• Strong experience in machine learning, NLP, and LLM‑based modeling.
• Proven track record designing and running experiments, including model evaluation and iteration.
• Hands‑on experience with generative AI techniques such as prompt engineering and RAG.
• Experience building and evaluating hybrid search systems using embeddings and vector databases.
• Experience creating agentic workflows with frameworks like LangChain, LangGraph, or AutoGen.
• Solid foundation in statistics, modeling, and large‑scale text processing.
