Senior Control Systems Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Control Systems Engineer to join BASF’s Petrochemical division in Freeport, Texas. The role focuses on ensuring the Acrylic Acid unit’s control systems operate safely, reliably and efficiently while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead configuration, preventive maintenance, and administration of all control systems within the Acrylic Acid units, including HMI, DCS and safety PLC programming.
• Troubleshoot, tune and optimise PID control loops, conduct root‑cause analyses and implement corrective actions.
• Support capital and maintenance projects by designing, implementing and commissioning control system interfaces; act as Manufacturing Representative or MOC Coordinator as required.
• Develop long‑term control system lifecycle plans, maintain detailed logic drawings and system configurations for troubleshooting and audits.
• Track total cost of ownership, monitor failures, manage maintenance contracts and coordinate software upgrades with vendors.
• Participate in peer groups to drive standardisation of control systems across the Freeport site.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer, Chemical, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience with control systems, automation and instrumentation.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills with attention to detail.
• Willingness to respond to critical after‑hours events impacting EHS.
