Senior Chemical Process Technician – Pilot Plant

About the role

Join BASF’s Battery Materials team in Beachwood, Ohio, as a Senior Chemical Process Technician in the lithium‑ion battery R&D pilot plant. You will work day‑shift operating calcination equipment to produce cathode active materials at pilot scale.

Key responsibilities

• Operate a variety of calcination pilot equipment, including mixers, mills, furnaces and blenders.
• Prepare raw materials accurately according to stoichiometric formulas and handle 50 lb sacks using personal protective equipment.
• Record, communicate and maintain testing results, logs and experimental observations for technical documentation.
• Create experiments, document them in an electronic lab journal, and troubleshoot minor issues.
• Manage inventory, prepare shipping documents, coordinate sample submissions and enter analytical results into electronic databases.
• Participate in safety, housekeeping and sample‑storage activities, ensuring consistent operational standards.

Required profile

• BS in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or related field with 3+ years experience, OR associate degree with 5+ years, OR high school diploma with 7+ years laboratory experience.
• Strong laboratory capabilities, meticulous record‑keeping and safe handling of chemicals and equipment.
• Excellent attention to detail and proven ability to perform stoichiometric calculations.
• Solid commitment to safety standards and pilot‑plant operating protocols.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
