Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

Daylight is building a decentralized energy protocol that turns distributed solar and storage assets into a yield‑bearing token. As a Senior Backend Engineer you will design and implement the Django‑based APIs and services that power the mobile app and partner integrations, enabling homeowners to monitor and optimise their energy usage.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain GraphQL queries, mutations and REST endpoints that serve the mobile experience and external partners.
• Extend and customise Django’s admin interface to create a feature‑rich internal CRM and administration portal.
• Contribute to technical architecture, ensuring scalability, security and performance across the backend stack.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure‑as‑code practices to streamline deployments.
• Collaborate with product, design and engineering teams to define features and resolve performance bottlenecks.

Required profile

• Proven experience building backend systems in a fast‑moving startup environment.
• Strong interest in crypto, blockchain and clean‑energy technologies.
• Ability to influence architecture decisions and mentor junior engineers.
• Comfortable working on‑site in New York City and collaborating across cross‑functional teams.
