Senior Attorney - Tax Law

About the role

Ryan Legal Services (RLS) is hiring a Senior Attorney in Scottsdale who directs, manages and supervises legal matters for the firm. The role works closely with the President on staffing, licensing, ethical compliance, client engagement and co-counsel arrangements, and must follow the rules of the Arizona Supreme Court and the Arizona Code of Judicial Administration governing Arizona Alternative Business Structure lawyers.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal expertise, hire, train and manage legal staff, and guide direct reports from the Legal department.
• Develop forms, tools and communication methods for client engagement; draft, send, receive, record and track prospective and client engagement agreements.
• Help build marketing programs and websites, including talking points for client referrals and referral materials.
• Analyze and advise third-party clients on tax law, oversee tax domain services (property tax, transaction tax, severance tax, federal taxes), and represent clients in tax appeals, including negotiating Legal Services Agreements and engaging co-counsel.
• Supervise professional tax training and ensure attorneys and staff maintain their state licensing requirements.
• Directly supervise Paralegals and Associate Attorneys in line with firm policy and applicable laws.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree and a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• One-year master's degree in taxation or equivalent.
• At least 20 years of experience as a practicing tax attorney.
• Active membership in the State Bar of Arizona, with no character or fitness violations; license to practice law in Arizona required.
• A willingness to work non-standard hours to accommodate global time zones.

Required skills

• Intermediate Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
• Internet navigation and research.
