Senior Accountant, Tax

About the role

Walker & Dunlop is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its Accounting department and support tax reporting and compliance across the organization. You will work closely with the VP of Tax Compliance and the SVP/Controller to ensure accurate corporate tax accounting in line with U.S. GAAP and SEC requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing and reviewing corporate tax returns, including direct, indirect, VAT, and international filings.
• Support the preparation of quarterly and annual GAAP tax provisions and maintain related documentation.
• Record quarterly and annual tax‑related journal entries and process tax payments.
• Coordinate collection and validation of financial data for tax reporting.
• Track, manage, and respond to tax notices and correspondence.
• Collaborate with external tax advisors and ensure compliance with internal controls, including SOX 404.
• Partner with internal and external auditors during audit engagements.
• Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required).
• CPA designation preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting or corporate tax.
• Experience in the financial services industry is a plus.
• Exposure to tax returns or tax provisions is helpful; training will be provided.
