Security Specialist

About the role

The Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence & Security (ARLIS) at the University of Maryland seeks a Security Specialist to protect a Department of Defense‑sponsored University Affiliated Research Center. This essential position ensures the safety of personnel, facilities, equipment, and classified information critical to U.S. national security.

Key responsibilities

• Provide physical protection for the UARC, including access control and escorting visitors.
• Conduct inspections of interior workspaces, raised floors, ceilings, and exterior grounds.
• Respond to emergencies, severe weather, and operational disruptions, including overtime and campus closures.
• Manage incidents, coordinate with emergency services, and support transition events.
• Maintain vigilance while standing or sitting for extended periods and perform data‑entry related to security logs.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.
• Willingness to undergo a government background investigation covering criminal, credit, education, employment, and military history.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, and perform inspections for long periods.
• Availability to report to the assigned location during emergencies or critical incidents.
