Security Officer

About the role

The Security Officer protects patients, staff, visitors and property across Lehigh Valley Health Network facilities, including hospitals, satellite clinics and parking areas. The role involves patrolling, responding to emergencies, and maintaining a safe environment.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol internal and external areas, report safety hazards and deter undesirable activity.
• Respond to coded alarms, provide security escorts, and act as first responder to emergencies.
• Investigate suspicious behavior, detain persons when reasonable suspicion exists, and conduct initial inquiries for complaints.
• Operate and maintain security vehicles and shuttles safely.
• Assist with evacuations and support emergency response protocols.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED.
• At least 1 year of security, law‑enforcement, corrections, or military experience, or graduation from a law‑enforcement academy.
• Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
• Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) and Basic Comprehensive Crisis Management (BCCM) certifications within 90 days.

Required skills

• Ability to operate access‑control and alarm systems.
• Proficiency with security equipment and vehicle operation.
• Sound judgment for critical decision‑making.
