Security Guard – Campus Safety

About the role

The Department of Public Safety at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore is seeking reliable individuals for contractual temporary Security Guard positions. Under direct supervision, you will help protect campus buildings, property, and occupants during everyday operations and special events.

Key responsibilities

• Secure and monitor entrances and exits to campus buildings and property.
• Patrol buildings and grounds, reporting any safety threats or incidents.
• Complete logs and basic reports as instructed.
• Assist with traffic control, crowd control, and parking enforcement.
• Respond to routine inquiries from staff, students, and visitors.
• Maintain communication with appropriate personnel using two‑way radios and telephones.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid Maryland non‑commercial Class C driver’s license (or equivalent).
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and detect life‑safety threats.
• Willingness to perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, lifting, and working in adverse weather.
• Pass a thorough background investigation and possible drug testing.
