About the role
Springer Nature’s Nature Portfolio is seeking a motivated Science News Intern for a six‑month paid internship (January‑June 2027). The role is based in Washington, D.C. or New York City on a hybrid schedule, working within Nature’s independent newsroom to produce compelling stories about cutting‑edge science and science policy.
Key responsibilities
- Research, write and edit news articles for the Nature website and print magazine.
- Cover developments at U.S. science agencies and major scientific events.
- Travel locally to gather information and conduct interviews as needed.
- Initially work on assigned stories, then develop and pitch original story ideas.
- Collaborate with editors, designers and senior reporters to ensure high editorial standards.
Required profile
- Strong interest in science, research and science communication.
- Excellent written English with a clear, engaging reporting style.
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
- Willingness to travel locally for story gathering.
