School Resource Officer – Macon RYDC (Georgia)

About the role

The State of Georgia seeks a dedicated School Resource Officer to provide security and law‑enforcement support at the Macon RYDC detention‑facility educational setting. This full‑time, onsite position works closely with education staff, probation officers, and parents to ensure a safe learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform all law‑enforcement duties in a professional manner consistent with state procedures.
• Provide security clearance for each student entering and exiting secure areas, including bathroom and lunch breaks.
• Conduct regular walkthroughs of classrooms, hallways, and offices.
• Address disruptive behavior, dress code violations, tardiness, and absenteeism.
• Facilitate safety drills as required by the Georgia Preparatory Academy.
• Inspect areas for contraband or safety breaches after each movement.
• Monitor security equipment and camera systems, reporting issues immediately.
• Collaborate with supervisors, education staff, and support personnel to increase student involvement.
• Assist in planning weekly student success meetings and monthly parent meetings.
• Lead group discussions on law‑enforcement topics as requested.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED and successful completion of Basic Mandate Law Enforcement Training.
• Physical ability to stand, kneel, bend, and crawl for extended periods.

Preferred qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Sociology, or related field.
• One + year experience as a School Resource Officer.
• Three + years experience as a Peace Officer with current Georgia POST certification.
• Two + years supervisory experience in police or investigative work.
